The Dismemberment Plan at the Paradise Rock Club, Boston

The Dismemberment Plan transformed the ‘Dise into a sweaty sea of smiles last night, and it was hard to tell who was more excited that the band was finally back in town: the fans who traveled from near and far for the show, or the Plan itself.

The Dismemberment Plan in BostonIt was the band’s first show in Boston since its members parted ways in 2003, and just a few dates into a short reunion tour it would have been understandable if the quartet was a bit rusty. For the most part, though, the Plan was clicking on all cylinders, barnstorming through a 22-song set heavy on material from the recently re-released Emergency & I and the band’s swan song, Change.

The obvious favorites were all represented – “The City,” “Time Bomb” and “What Do You Want Me to Say?” came fairly early, though the most fervent fans in the sold-out crowd had to wait for the encore to join the Plan onstage during “The Ice of Boston.”

The Dismemberment Plan’s setlist:
The Face of the Earth / A Life of Possibilities / Following Through / You Are Invited / Sentimental Man / The City / The First Anniversary of Your Last Phone Call / Time Bomb / What Do You Want Me to Say? / Come Home / The Dismemberment Plan Gets Rich / Gyroscope / If I Don’t Write / Girl O’ Clock / I Love a Magician / Ellen and Ben / Do the Standing Still / OK, Joke’s Over // The Ice of Boston / That’s When the Party Started / Spider in the Snow / Back and Forth

Love the photos! I really don’t understand how you got that first photo. Were you sitting on the bar? Or are you 8 feet tall? It just doesn’t look like the right angle from the balcony.

Thanks Beth! That shot of the stage was taken from right under the balcony at the back of the crowd — framed-up with camera overhead using my D90’s live view, so not an entirely blind stab at it. The D90 isn’t the most amazing camera for shooting shows, but it’s solid and the live view comes in handy at least a couple times a year.

Ooh, live view. I don’t know what that is, but I wish my old Canon 30d had one. Awesome. It’s so hard to take full stage + crowd shots from behind the crowd.
